Transgendered Athletes
Transgender Athletes
A transgender male (FTM) athlete that has declared their identity as male may compete only in the men’s division.
A transgender female (MTF) athlete may compete in the men’s division but may only compete in the women’s division if being treated with *testosterone suppression medication (estrogen) for a minimum of one calendar year before competition and provide documentation to verify initiation of therapy.
*Research suggests that androgen deprivation through the use of hormone replacement therapy will reduce muscle mass accordingly. One year of hormone therapy is appropriate transitional time before a (MTF) athlete may compete in the women’s division. A (MTF) Athlete MUST provide documentation, established within 1 month prior to competition, that puts their Testosterone ratio level within an acceptable range for Women. The accepted range of Testosterone in a Female in the Medical Community is Between 15-70 nanograms per deciliter of blood plasma. If a lifter cannot provide acceptable documentation , then they will be placed in their naturally assigned gender.
